National Harbour- Staycation

This past weekend, we took the boys to the Gaylord Resort and Convention Center at National Harbour- just a short 15 minute drive away from our house. They run great specials on the weekends in the summer due to low convention traffic and we were able to stay in a great executive suite for little cost. The boys loved it and thought staying in a hotel room was the best, especially Everett, he could not contain his excitement running through the halls. We took the boys to the pool, for long walks around the harbor and to eat at some of the fun places around the resort- we had a great staycation and are sad it was over so quickly-- until next summer, I guess.

Long Beach Island Vacation

We just returned from a few days up at Long Beach Island, New Jersey at Ben's Uncle's John's beautiful beachfront home. Josh, Charlotte, Maddy, Chloe, Cavan and Liam were in town for a vacation and so Ben and I and the boys and Abby and Steve all made our way to the beach for some Scandlen family fun time! We had such an amazing time visiting with everyone- it had been two years since we had seen the kids, which was way too long! Everett and Rollin cannot get enough of their adorable cousins, which was fun to see. Here are some photos of our fun trip! Love these little people to pieces.

Fourth of July and Scandlen Family Update

We just returned from three nights down in Williamsburg for the 4th of July. We had a great time despite some illnesses! The week before poor Rollin was waking up in the middle of the night once a night which is VERY unlike him. I did not think much of it, he had a runny nose, but always seems to have one. On Wednesday afternoon, after his nap, he had a fever of 103.5. Yikes! I immediately took him to the doctors and found out he had a double ear infection. Our first experience in the Scandlen family with an ear infection. Poor guy got started on antibotics right away and started feeling better about 48 hours later. I just felt horrible for not taking him in to the doctors sooner. Next time, I will know. The second day we were down in Williamsburg, we took the boys to Busch Gardens. Everett was fine at the beginning, but then started acting strangely. Had a meltdown (which rarely happens) and then fell asleep at the lunch table at 11 a.m. (usual nap time is 2 p.m.). We had no idea what was wrong, figured he was just tired. Went home, went to nap, woke up, fever of 103. Yikes! He laid around all evening, drank lots of water and was generally in a good mood. The next morning he was fine. We did not think much of it, but then two days later he got horrible blisters on his feet! Turns out he had Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. Who knew? Despite our medical issues, we had a wonderful visit to Williamsburg. The boys always love spending time with my parents and enjoying the pool, going out on the boat, to the farmer's market, Busch Gardens and the Virginia Living Museum. We wore them out! Here are some photos of our trip. We are having the best summer so far- spending a lot of time at the pool and sprayground and generally just enjoying the nice (albeit hot!) weather.

Happy Father's Day

Too often I do not take the time to tell Ben how thankful we are for him and all he does for our family. I always knew he would be a good father based on the kind of man he is, but he has truly surpassed my expectations in every way with the boys. He is so kind, involved, loving and attentive to them. He never gets frusterated, never gets short with them and always has a smile and kind word to say to them, it is truly truly amazing. I am so thankful for all his patience and love for our children, they could not ask for a better daddy and I just know they will grow up to be honorable men with Ben as their example. Happy Father's Day, Ben. God knew what he was doing when he made you a daddy. Love you! This picture just says it all-- Ben continues to smile despite being in the middle of a two year old melt down :)

Rollin's 1 Year Stats!

Rollin is a BIG boy, just like Everett. We had his one year appointment and his stats are: 26 lbs, 1 oz (93%), 32 inches long (97%) and 18 1/4 head (60%). He is crawling like crazy, going up stairs, pulling up and standing supported. No walking yet, but hopefully soon!

First Birthday and Trip to Boulder!!

We can hardly believe our little man is now one! Time flies. This past year has been full of so many wonderful things and experiences and some trying times for our family. Right now we are in a very good place! We spent a few days out in Boulder celebrating Rollin's big day, we had a lovely time. We arrived in Denver (the boys were great on the flight!) and spent the night at a wonderful resort in Colorado Springs called Cheyenne Mountain Resort- we had such fun as a family and surprisenly the boys did great sleeping in the hotel room together. The next morning, we drove up to Denver and met Jenni and the girls at the Denver zoo. Everett and Rollin could not get enough of their cousins, it was so fun to see them interact. We spent the next few days in Boulder going to the pool, going to dinner, having a BBQ for Rollin's birthday and just getting to spend some time visiting with Jenni, Will and the girls- we also go to spend family time together each morning when the boys got up at 6 a.m.(!) Boulder time due to the time change. We got them in the car and headed for bagels at our favorite place, Mos- we were the first customers each morning :) Here are some photos of our trip!
